Tarun Vohra

Tarun is a senior advertising and marketing professional with 15 years of experience with leading national and international organisations. He moved to the NGO sector in 2004 and has served in leading national and international NGO's in the last 6 years in country management positions. Tarun led the fundraising operations in North and East India for CRY, was the country head for fundraising for PLAN in India and led the strategy and business plan development for CARE as Executive Director-External Relations.

Sharad Sharma

Sharad Sharma is a cartoonist and founder of World Comics Network, which promotes the use of Grassroots Comics for the social change globally. He worked for TV news and print media for over a decade, before switching to development sector. He has extensive experience from over 600 workshops organized with a wide variety of organisations in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Laos, Benin, Brazil, UK, Finland, Sweden and Estonia. He has initiated many campaigns by evolving comics on issues like Girl Child Right, Local Governance and Corporal Punishment. He is author of several books and manuals. Rati Misra

Rati comes with vast experience in both the corporate and development sector. She is currently the Regional Representative ( South Asia) with the Resource Alliance- an international non profit working towards building fundraising capacities of civil society organistaions worldwide. Rati is responsible for  developing strategic partnerships and alliances, and enabling an environment which supports the development of philanthropy and fundraising in the South Asia region.

Ranjeev Vij

Ranjeev’s core skills lies in approaching marketing communications from 360 degree brand perspective and are routed in strong consumer insights. His approach has helped brands change consumer behaviour and win both national and international effectiveness and creative awards. He has also advised clients on new product development ideas and some of his product concepts have helped turn around the brand health. Ranjeev is a digital medium evangelist and is passionate about technology, traveling and photography.

Reeti Sahai

Reeti comes with ten plus years of experience working with leading organizations. She is known for her high energy facilitation and passion in impacting people’s lives. Her internal consulting experience coupled with her MBA, MBTI and FIRO B makes her very effective inleading Leadership Development, Team Effectiveness and Creativity workshops. She firmly believes in a whole system model of organization transformation and supports clients with competency frameworks, balance score card, performance and talent management systems- the hard part of managing transformations; and operates with ease in structured and ambiguous environments. She has travelled extensively to various countries USA, UK, Europe, Bangkok, Thailand, Egypt.

Jyoti Nanda

Jyoti Nanda has been involved with teaching and learning for almost 25 years. She has taught in schools all over India as well as abroad. The aspiration to learn and acquire new skills motivated her to move to the publishing industry. Her long tenure with Oxford University Press honed her skills as a publishing professional. As the Managing Editor of a large team at a Publishing House, she realized her potential as an effective leader. She understood how role models and leaders can impact positively the professional and personal lives of the people they come in contact with. Widely travelled, she has been exposed to various cultures, places and situations developing in her exceptional people skills and an understanding of what makes them tick! Jyoti radiates positivity and warmth and her passion is to help people around her. Deeply interested in philosophy and study of the human psyche, her interest lies in coaching, team building and the human side of change. She believes that people have within them the DNA of transforming themselves, given the right impetus and she wants to be a part of that glorious change.

Bosco Fernandes

Highly accomplished and dedicated resource generating professional, thoroughly committed and service-oriented, possessing over 20-years' experience in NGO-activities, FMCG-Sales, Marketing, Public Relations and Advertising. Jeroninio Almeida

Jeroninio "Jerry" Almeida who is now a serial social entrepreneur and social scientist working on institution building, has been a volunteer from his very early days having worked for creating awareness about causes related to the blind, aged, animals and children while schooling in St. Xavier's high school. He continued volunteering and contributing with his cutting edge ideas for social awareness by creating big ticket projects and initiatives through his days in St. Xavier's college in Mumbai and now in his thirties continues as the CHIEF VOLUNTEER with the organisation he founded in 2004 called iCONGO- Indian Confederation of NGOs. Jerry from his teenage days believed there is a greater purpose to life, which is not just about creating wealth for oneself and our near & dear ones, but that life is to be lived well to leave behind a legacy of a better world for future generations where there is social equity for one and all.

Wg. Cdr Sashanka Roychaudhury

An Engineer by profession and a Management degree holder with varied experience for last four decades. He has served Indian Air Force for 29 years as an Engineer. Working in the development sector for last 19 years in organization like Development Alternatives, HelpAge India, Global Cancer Concern, Deepalaya and currently in Hemophilia Federation India. He has a proven record of leading multi-skilled teams to implement projects from pre-development through post-development cycle and capable of mobilizing resources to a very high level. A high achiever and a well respected person in the development sector. Wg Cdr. RoyChoudhury is a professional fund raiser who is exposed to both national and international arena of fund raising.

Julie George – Programme Director (Asia & East Africa)

Julie George has been working in the social development sector in India and Nepal since 1979. Julie has extensive training experience of more than two decades, catering to a variety of clientele ranging from community groups to senior managers and students of professional courses like undergraduate medical students and covering topics like gender, human rights, business management, community health, climate change, strategic leadership, etc. She has worked with national and international NGOs like OXFAM and multilaterals like the UN both at grassroots and at senior management level. Julie worked with UN for six years as Gender Advisor to the UN Inter Agency Working Group on Gender & Development and as South Asia Programme Officer with UNIFEM South Asia Regional Office. She joined Skillshare International in December 2001 to set up its India office and Asia Regional Office and to develop the programme. She also supported Skillshare’s peacebuilding project in Cambodia during 2007-09. Currently she is Programme Director for India and Nepal. Herself trained through the Leadership Development Programme (LDP), Julie has been delivering bespoke LDP and developing the strategic leadership skills of communities, NGOs and volunteers since 2005.

Meenu Chopra

Meenu has been strongly associated with the development sector for the past 8 years. As the Executive Founding Director at iCONGO, she has been responsible for shaping the mission and vision of iCONGO and has developed and conceptualized some cutting edge ideas for campaigning and building citizen social responsibility. She has been instrumental in forming media and other strategic alliances. She has also been involved in the planning and running of the pioneering initiative for creating an online media movement for citizen reporting with www.idishoom.com and organising Fundraising workshops through iCODEVGURUKUL. She has actively networked with different NGOs working on diverse causes

Hunardeep Singh Brar

Hunardeep Singh Brar is a young motivated business management graduate from Bangalore University who has always exploited his skills in working towards bringing a change for the better and is constantly involved in doing so. Hunar initially started his professional career at Hewlett Packard, Bangalore in 2006. In 2009 Hunar moved to Delhi to work for iCONGO. He manages all the web portals and day to day operations of iCONGO. Currently he is also working as a consultant with Skillshare International. Hunar firmly believes that every individual has something to offer in their own different ways for the betterment of humanity.

Skillshare International (India) Trust and iCONGO have come together to convert their strong Belief into Action. This belief which is being purported to be rolled out in the form of the Fundraising Conclave, is based on the foundation that building of Fundraising skills is effective and useful for those who need it the most when the inputs/ training is contextualized to the local requirements, environment/dynamics and that the package contains highly-easily transferable skills/ tools.

With the above three elements converging in the Gurukul, an effective, localized, feasible and sustainable development initiative will not be seen anymore as a specialized rocket science, as per the message emanating from the current trainings being offered.

Sustainable development resources as well as fundraising will be unpacked, democratized and made easily (cost) do-able for all who want to carry out / on THE GOOD WORK!

India is a country with 25% of the its citizens contributing over 16% of GDP and nearly 700 million living on less than 2$ a day. There are millions of NGOs trying to make a difference and bridging this gap. NGO’s lack the right resource mobilisation skills, approach and strategy and are not aware of all nuances within the development sector. Knowledge resource is also the missing factor and has its impact on every individual, civil society as well as the business world. There are many aspects that need to be explored, understood and applied and this art can be mastered only through successful training, approach and implementation. Integrated marketing and communication strategies, a new knowledge power house concept that combines civil society, the business world and the development sector is the untapped eye…that will bring a vision to your mission.

Mobilisation of financial resources for development in India & South Asia today needs to also increasingly focus on non-traditional /non-institutional sources as the Institutional Sources (bilateral, multilateral) are evidently and gradually reducing their focus on South Asia.

Skills required in the non-traditional resource mobilisation are not at present vastly available among the Development professionals. One needs to source this from the marketing and communication (media) professionals. However, a contextualization (local culture, breaking-down) is required with the ethos and ethics of the development sector. This is what is offered by iCODEVGURUKUL.

Currently, many trainings are being organized for the development sector. International experts are flown in to train people in Fundraising but there are major gaps in trainings of this nature:

  • the experts lack a proper understanding of the Indian context.
  • the workshops are based only on theory and training, and
  • the trainers have never practiced the skills demanded by the current Fundraising scenario i.e.
  • brand building
  • event management
  • social communications
  • fundraising strategy
  • cause related marketing or
  • any other fundraising proficiency

In short, people attending these workshops are also trained for short-term mercenary fundraising and not taught the art of involving people to understand the cause and become holistic supporters for the long term. Resource mobilisation professionals and CSR professionals in India/South Asia and the development sector need to be trained by people who are working hands-on in this scenario. Only such people are capable of understanding the issues and training and mentoring others to tackle the issues in the right manner.

Objective

  • To explore the nuances of Fundraising and give a deeper understanding of the true and holistic meaning of resource mobilisation.
  • To help the development and CSR professionals to master the art of involving people to understand the cause and become holistic supporters for the long term
  • To equip NGOs/CBOs/Foundations to tap local resources for generating funds so as to minimize their dependency on traditional and dwindling sources of raising funds.
  • To give the right orientation about sustainable development to Youth who wish to join the development sector

Methodology

  • The delegates will be trained by real practitioners, who understand the challenges associated through years of experience. The resource persons for these workshops are from the industry (media, social marketing, and event management), development sector, Funding agencies and Government etc.
  • Project specific mentoring will be given, on request, during the morning workshop.
  • Post Workshop, strategic support and handholding (on request) will be given for implementation of the skills learnt through our workshops.
  • Exchange of ideas/experiences and consultation will be encouraged post workshop via the Online Alumni Forum.
